Daniel Gensler Honored for Charitable Work with Missionvale USA

Today, The Gensler Group congratulates our President Daniel Gensler, an active Coronado Rotarian, for receiving Honorable Mention in the 14th Annual Invest in Others Awards for his philanthropic contributions to Missionvale USA. As a result, Missionvale USA will receive a $1,000 donation from Invest in Others in his honor.

The Invest in Others Charitable Foundation established its awards program to recognize the charitable work of financial advisors in communities across the country and around the world. This year they recongized Dan for his admirable role in impacting the poor and marginalized of Missionvale, South Africa.

Missionvale (MVCC) is a shack land township where poverty and disease are rampant. It’s home to 120,000 people that share communal outhouses with a bucket toilet system and 19 communal water taps. There are very few recognizable roads, no access to electricity, over 70% of residents are unemployed and an estimated 80% of the population is infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

Since 2008, Dan has been making an impact both locally and globally to secure funding, educate, inspire, and encourage others to get involved.

Dan has secured $206,180 through 7 Rotary grants that have provided funding for medicine, medical supplies, nutrition, adult education, and transportation. Additionally, the grants have provided computers, tools, and other resources needed for basic education.

Dan was also instrumental in bringing TOMS Shoes to MVCC and due to his efforts over 350,000 pairs of shoes have been given to MVCC and placed on the infectious cracked feet of thousands of children.

“Most of them had been walking barefoot their entire life, feet caked with dust, cuts, infections, scabies, thorns, and even pieces of glass”, sadly explained Dan.

Dan is co-founder and treasurer of Missionvale USA, which has generated over $250,000 for Missionvale Care Center. In addition to raising funds, Dan has organized four mission trips accompanied by 35 supporters and as a tribute to the people of Missionvale, Dan and his daughter Brooke Gensler walked the Camino De Santiago, a 500 mile, 30-day journey through northern Spain. They called their pilgrimage “Miles for Missionvale.” Friends and family were quickly inspired by their efforts and donated $14,000.

If you’re interested in tuning in, the Invest in Others Awards will be presented digitally this year from Monday, September 21 to Friday, September 25. One video awards presentation will be unveiled daily on investinothers.org at 1:45pm PST in the following categories: Catalyst, Community Service, Global Impact, Volunteer of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement.

Congratulations Dan for your philanthropic contributions to Missionvale USA and for making an impact not just locally but globally as well!
